How about testing your guests ‘on the door’

The Oxford Zeneca vaccine is being rolled out successfully around the country and we, in the wedding industry are all clamouring to be allowed to open again. Currently, as I’m sure you know, weddings are essentially banned (except under exceptional circumstances). However there is an idea that seems to be gaining traction. This is testing your guests on the door before allowing them entry.

Let’s start with a few facts. COVID in whatever form is going to be here for a long time to come. I don’t pretend to be a scientist or seer, but that seems to be the way it’s going. On top of that, the idea that A vaccine will be the silver bullet and make everything go back to the way it was has been de-bunked. After all, no vaccine is 100% effective, And that means, as far as I can see, that we ought to treat COVID as another flu (albeit with deadlier consequences). That means that one vaccine - or one course - isn’t going to be enough.

Testing your guests with Rapid FLow Testing?

There;s much talk of vaccine passports (for international travel etc) but seems to me to be a good headline but not a policy. What does sound more promising is Rapid Flow Testing. This, in case you don’t know, is a test where the results are available within a short space of time. Vaccine passports are a great idea but if you can test your guests on the door before your event that gives that much more certainty that everyone is protected.

I’m not sure how would be responsible for organising this. It may be the venue, it may be the organisers. And it’s far too early to say whether this will come to pass but testing your guests on the door will bring some measure of confidence.
